Minutes, hours, days, weeks…time means little to a child experiencing abuse or neglect.
“Working with a child who’s been exposed to trauma or abuse is complex, but it comes down to one simple truth.
The sooner we can start helping, the more chance there is that we can change a child’s life now and for the future.”

But I also get to see the other side – the stories of hope when children get to spend time with our therapists, making sense of their experience, and fulfilling their potential.
One thing I know for sure – it’s crucial to get kids the help they need as early as possible.
You see, when a young person doesn’t get the care they need, it can be a roadblock to their growth and development. Problems can start to compound. Speech and language can suffer, as can their ability to move and coordinate their bodies.
These are the basic skills a child needs to grow and flourish. So, when you support us here at Act for Kids, you’re not just helping a child get through a tough time – you’re helping them overcome these hurdles and live the life they deserve as they grow up. And for that, we’re incredibly grateful.
On behalf of all the therapists here, thank you for caring and for being part of our support team!

There’s no such thing as “one-size-fits-all” when it comes to helping children and families who have been exposed to abuse, neglect or family violence.
When you support Act for Kids, you’re keeping the doors open at our Integrated Therapy Service, where our teams of professional therapists work alongside each child, developing an individual plan to fit each child and family.
These teams include speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and psychologists, who work together and apply their combined skills to make sure each child can reach their full potential.
Without your kindness, these vulnerable children and families would not have access to support. In 2022-23, we were able to help 2,680 children* who would otherwise slip through the cracks in the system.
