This festive season, help create moments of trust and safety for children recovering from trauma.

The holidays are filled with special moments that bring joy and comfort—the excitement of decorating the tree, the smell of festive baking, and the warmth of being surrounded by loved ones.

When we’re children, these moments of joy and happiness mean everything.

Just as those festive moments bring joy, moments of trust are everything in a child’s recovery from abuse and neglect.

At Act for Kids, we know every moment of healing helps. Children who come to us have often lost their sense of safety and trust. Through specialised therapy, patience, and kindness, we help them rebuild that trust, one moment at a time.

The path to healing is all about the moments of trust. These are moments that matter.

Your gift this Christmas will provide children impacted by abuse and neglect with the therapeutic care they need to feel safe, heal, and reclaim their futures.

This festive season, you can help kids to heal from trauma.

You can help create moments that matter for children like Harper*

At just 12 years old, *Harper had already endured years of emotional abuse and neglect.

Her home life was extremely stressful and often impacted by domestic violence, making Harper feel as if she was always walking on eggshells.

She avoided drawing any attention to herself and spent days at a time on her own, often feeling scared and alone.

At first, Harper was withdrawn and shy, avoiding eye contact and responding with only one-word answers. Her Act for Kids psychologist patiently worked to build trust with her through simple, playful activities like musical instruments and interactive board games. It took time, but after five or six sessions, Harper began to feel comfortable and even started looking forward to her therapy appointments.

Gradually, Harper’s transformation was incredible. She formed friendships at school, her appetite improved, and she became more trusting of her caregivers.

After a year of therapy, she was placed with loving foster carers and became a cherished part of their family.
